Decoration method
Laser Etching for Drinkware, Awards, Wood, Leather, and Premium Hard Goods
Laser etching uses a focused beam to permanently mark metal drinkware, wood, leather, glass, and select plastics. The result is a refined, color-shift finish that never fades or peels.
Quick Answer
When to choose Laser Etching
Laser etching is the right choice for premium drinkware, executive gifts, awards, plaques, and any item where the decoration should look refined and never wear off. It is the standard finish on stainless tumblers and bottles, leather notebooks, wooden gifts, and engraved metal awards. Laser etching needs .ai or .eps vector artwork. Setup fees apply on every order.
Strengths and trade-offs
What Laser Etching does well — and where it does not
Strengths
- Permanent — never fades, peels, or chips
- Refined, premium finish suited to executive gifts and awards
- Single-color tonal mark that works without colored inks
- Excellent on metal, wood, leather, and glass
Trade-offs
- Single-color mark only — cannot reproduce full-color logos
- Substrate limited (works on metal, wood, leather, glass, some plastics; not soft fabrics)
- Setup tooling required per design — fees apply on every order

FAQ
Laser Etching — common questions
What materials can be laser etched?
Stainless steel and aluminum drinkware, anodized metals, wood, leather, glass, and certain plastics. Soft fabrics, rubber, and some coated plastics are not laser candidates — we confirm material compatibility on the quote.
What artwork file is needed for laser etching?
We need .ai or .eps vector artwork. JPEG, PNG, or screenshots can start the quote, but conversion to vector is a one-time extra charge before production.
Will the etching fade or wear off?
No. Laser etching is a permanent mark in the substrate itself — it does not crack, peel, or fade. It outlasts the product.
Can laser etching reproduce my full-color logo?
No. Laser etching produces a single-color tonal mark (the natural color of the etched substrate). Multi-color logos still work but as a one-color etched version. For full color, choose pad printing on appropriate substrates instead.
What is the minimum for laser etched drinkware or awards?
12-piece minimum on apparel-rule substrates. Promotional product minimums vary by item — we confirm on the quote.
